Carton volume.
Shipment weight.

Calculate the cubic metres (CBM), gross weight and piece count for a group of identical rectangular cartons. Use the external carton dimensions, including packaging.

No registration. Your entries stay in this tab: this calculator does not upload or store them. To compare different carton sizes, calculate and export each group separately, then add their totals.

Your carton group

Required: three external dimensions, their unit, and the number of identical cartons.

Use decimal points, with no commas. Weight includes the carton and its contents. All cartons in this calculation must share the same dimensions, and the same weight and piece count where provided.

How the calculation works

Measure the outside.
Keep the units clear.

CBM means cubic metres. It describes the volume occupied by the rectangular external dimensions entered here.

  1. Convert each dimension to metres: centimetres ÷ 100; millimetres ÷ 1,000; inches × 0.0254.
  2. Volume per carton = length × width × height in metres.
  3. Total volume = volume per carton × number of cartons.
  4. Total gross weight = gross weight per carton × carton count. Pounds convert to kilograms using × 0.45359237.
  5. Total pieces = pieces per carton × carton count, if provided.

Fictional worked example

20 identical cartons.
1.2 cubic metres.

Assume each external carton measures 50 × 40 × 30 cm, weighs 9.5 kg gross, and holds 12 pieces.

One carton
0.50 × 0.40 × 0.30 = 0.06 m³
Total volume
0.06 × 20 = 1.2 m³
Total gross weight
9.5 × 20 = 190 kg
Total pieces
12 × 20 = 240

This tool does not calculate pallet dimensions, gaps, stacking limits, load restraint, container fit or freight prices. External carton CBM is not a container-loading plan. A carrier may apply a different chargeable-weight rule, divisor, minimum or rounding method.

Record mixed-size cartons separately. For partial cartons, use their actual external dimensions and gross weights. Ask your supplier or forwarder to confirm the final packing list and shipment arrangements.

Connect the dimensions and quantities to the correct product and artwork revision with the packaging-brief worksheet. For an automotive filter enquiry, use the RFQ builder and private-label packaging guide.
