MANN-FILTER recovers activated carbon from cabin filter offcuts

Selected FreciousPlus filters now blend virgin carbon with carbon recovered from factory offcuts. The distinction matters when comparing recycled-content claims.

Where the carbon comes from

In a September announcement, MANN-FILTER described a change to more than 100 FreciousPlus references. Making cabin filter media leaves scraps that still contain activated carbon. Recycling partners recover that carbon for use in fresh media alongside virgin material. The first production run uses scrap from the manufacturer’s own process.

A workshop removing a used filter is at a different point in the cycle. The announcement describes factory offcuts as the feedstock for this rollout. It gives no instructions for washing or reactivating a used cabin filter.

What to ask on a quotation

When a supplier gives a recycled percentage, ask what was weighed. A percentage of the carbon layer and a percentage of the entire finished filter use different denominators. Request the affected part number and the source of the recovered material so you can compare two offers on the same basis.

Gas adsorption is a separate purchasing question. For an odour-control application, ask for the test gas, airflow and time to breakthrough for that finished part. A statement about the origin of the carbon answers none of those questions.
